Here Is a MARINE Story as told November 16, 2009 in a letter to the Editor
in the Naples, Florida News:
We saw America...
My husband And I were on a getaway trip with our friends and we stopped at the Punta Gorda rest area on I 75.
My husband noticed that the American flag was disconnected from the flagpole at it's top fastener.
He also saw that a young Marine had noticed the same thing wrong with the flag.
The Marine returned to the van in which he and another Marine were traveling.
Our traveling group started to get back into the car, when we noticed both young Marines in their full dress uniforms returning to the flag area. They performed a flag-raising ceremony as they reattached the flag and raised it to full staff and then to half staff honoring those killed at Fort Hood.
Those honorable young men took the time from their busy schedules to restore that flag to it's proper condition.
Unfortunately, the rest area was not that busy - although to witness such a patriotic deed brought tears to our eyes.
We left that rest area with a feeling of pride and comfort knowing that fine young service men and women like those two Marines are ready and willing to serve our wonderful country and keep all of us safe from harm.
