SHANGRALA'S
SALVATION
MOUNTAIN!
Leonard Knight is a very dedicated person. Almost 20 years ago his hot air balloon, with
the message 'God is Love' failed him on a barren patch of desert near Niland, CA, along
the Salton Sea. Leonard felt God wanted him to paint His message at this location on the
side of a mountain. However, there wasn't a mountain in sight. This did not stop Leonard.
Thus began the awesome structure he calls Salvation Mountain.
The mountain, lettered with biblical quotations, stands three stories tall, and is a 100-ft
wide mass of concrete, adobe, hay bale, tree skeleton grottos and paint. Lots of paint!
So much paint that Leonard asks that all donations to him be made in the form of acrylic
paint. You can visit Salvation Mountain in Niland, CA. It is located south of I-10, five
miles east of Hwy 111 at Niland. Visit anytime. Just bring some paint if you can.
