SHANGRALA'S

LIONESS AND FOX!

      Onlookers in the Central Kalahari Game Reserve in Botswana thought they were about to see a vicious attack when they saw a lioness come upon an injured juvenile bat-eared fox. After all, lions are extremely efficient predators, and this animal was so young and defenseless, it looked like the perfect opportunity for a tasty meal with very little effort.
      Here's Their Amazing Story. Enjoy! :)

      The lioness noticed the injured fox on the dirt road. The poor fox was absolutely terrified and froze in fear.

      The male lion observed him too.

      The lioness however did something out of what one might expect and tended to her own cubs letting them all get to know each other.

      The fox was recovering and feeling more at ease when suddenly things didn't look so good for him...

      The male lion came up and threatened to finish the little fox off for a snack.

      The mother lioness sprang into action and told him to back off! Unbelievable.

      She wasn't about to let anything happen to this helpless little one.

      The male lion wasn't too pleased, but he left the fox alone.

      It is hard to know exactly what motivated the lioness's behavior. Perhaps the fox reminded her of her own cubs, since it was comparable in size. Whatever the reason for her unexpected defense of the fox, it saved the fox from certain death at the hands of the male lion.

      After a few minutes, the fox had recovered well enough to be able to scamper off and live another day proving that even in the harsh wilderness there can be compassion given one for another.
